Are the Buffalo Sabres even in on the Connor McDavid sweepstakes? [Sports Media 101]. Certainly the Buffalo Sabres have three first round draft picks next year. Yes their own will be high, and they are hoping that the New York Islanders will also be high.
But do they truly stand a chance at number one over all? Conspiracy theorists were out in full force when the Florida Panthers were selected as the number one team in the draft lottery this year. “Oh were Buffalo, the league hates us…woe is me we never get to go first.” Despite all the odds being in the worst team in the league’s favor, the percentage of that team keeping the first overall pick is low. While the hope and prayer for the organization is Connor McDavid – the 2015 draft is a long way off. There is a lot more in the 2015 draft to be excited about than Connor McDavid as well.
Folks, don’t get your hopes up. Ryan Miller will not rejoin the Buffalo Sabres. [RotoWorld]. I actually saw some guy comment somewhere that the Buffalo Sabres should get Thomas Vanek back as well. There has to be something in the water in the deeper parts of Sabres Nation. We are in a rebuild, not a retread, not a step backwards.
Bringing players back from a by gone era of Buffalo Sabres hockey was a Darcy Regier move. While I liked Vanek and Miller just as much as the next guy, they are in no way in the picture for the future of this organization. Don’t think it, don’t get mad at the team when it doesn’t happen – and who cares if they win the Stanley Cup somewhere else. They aren’t the first to do it, they won’t be the last.
