After 93 total games, the National Hockey League has finally crowned it’s annual victor last night, with the Los Angeles Kings being crowned Stanley Cup Champions.
My path to the Stanley Cup wasn’t linking the Kings, but rather the Chicago Blackhawks, but I have long since said this year the Stanley Cup would go West – regardless of what teams got there.
Of course it’s not really hard to say that the Western Conference is going to win the Stanley Cup. Six of the last eight Stanley Cup Champions have come from the Western Conference.
The best part about last nights win was for the fans of the Los Angeles Kings – able to see their team lift 35 pounds of NHL glory on home ice. This accomplishment is further pumped up by the fact that the Los Angeles Kings won each of their previous series in this years Stanley Cup Finals on enemy ice in the seventh game of the series.
Thanks to a poor penalty – the Los Angeles Kings were kept alive in a game, and didn’t have to face travelling to another team’s barn again.
Los Angeles Kings Win 2014 Stanley Cup
Congratulations to the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions – The Los Angeles Kings. Your battle was well fought – and you have earned the right to party.
Thanks to an overtime goal in the second overtime period by Alec Martinez – who will probably tell you (and most likely would be correct in saying so) that he was just in the right spot at the right time. He was doing what he was supposed to. Going to the net in overtime. Funny rebound finds his stick, and he has a wide open net to clinch a series.
Not only did he live out his dream of winning a Stanley Cup – but he goes down in history as the guy who finished the series.
We are now two days away from Ville Leino buyout day – with the Buffalo Sabres most likely buying him out as early on Monday as possible, and thirteen days away from the NHL Draft – where the future begins.
