The Buffalo Sabres have announced the date of their season’s home opener through the team website ahead of the schedule 4PM announcement of the full NHL schedule. A mere nine days after the Stanley Cup was hoisted far from Buffalo, the Sabres will learn their schedule for the 2014-15 regular season. For now, we know the date of the team’s first home game.
The Sabres will face a new Eastern Conference foe in the Columbus Blue Jackets at home to start their 41-game slate of games at the First Niagara Center. Buffalo went 13-21-7 at home last season while the Blue Jackets went 21-17-3 on the road.
The Sabres will look to avoid the disastrous start that set the tone for a franchise-worst 2013-14 season while Blue Jackets will aim to build on a tough first round playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Blue Jackets earned the first two playoff wins in franchise history and will likely expect to top that in 2015.
Ted Nolan and the newly built Buffalo roster will travel to Chicago after the home opener to play the Blackhawks in their home opener on October 11th.
