Buffalo Sabres Fans React To Reinhart Selection

Just moments after the Florida Panthers made Aaron Ekblad the first-overall selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray stepped up to the mic. Without missing a beat or wasting a minute, Murray announced that the Sabres had selected center Sam Reinhart of the WHL’s Kootenay Ice with the second-overall pick, the highest the Sabres have picked since 1987.

Reinhart, 18, had 105 points in 60 regular season games last season, including career-highs in goal (36) and assists (69). He also had 23 points (6-17) in 13 playoff games. Reinhart just wrapped up his third full WHL season, also seeing limited action in the 2010-11 regular season and playoffs before becoming a full-time member of the Ice.

Here’s how some Sabres fans reacted to the news of Reinhart’s selection on Twitter.

Generally, the immediate reaction of Sabres fans to the selection of Reinhart seemed to be positive. The 3rd-ranked center could end up in the Buffalo blue and gold in October. He said in his immediate post-draft interview that he’s ready to get going. And hey, he wears #23 – and we all know that jersey number is newly available; not to mention, two of the past three 2nd-overall selections went immediately to the NHL following their draft rather than returning to their junior clubs.

So, Sabres fans. What do you think about the Sabres’ pick? Are you happy with it? Take the poll below and leave your thoughts in the comments.

We needed a center, we got a center. Only time will tell if he is legit.
