Just a reminder for all Buffalo Sabres fans out there – the first round of the draft starts tonight in Philadelphia. There is a lot of excitement for the Sabres in this NHL Draft, as it is probably the most important draft in team history since the very first few drafts that started putting the team together.
Here is a quick reminder of the Buffalo Sabres draft selections for all rounds of the draft.
The Buffalo Sabres hold their own first round draft pick at the number two overall spot.
Don’t expect the Buffalo Sabres to be done with the draft that quickly. Tim Murray and company plan on moving pieces around to get into the first round a second time. I wouldn’t expect them to move into the top ten for a second pick unless Murray gets really lucky – but they could move into the 12-18 range.
Finishing last in the league last year, the Buffalo Sabres will pick 31st overall in the second round – the first pick in the second round. Depending on the depth of the draft and how the first round shakes out – you almost have to consider this a “first round pick”.
Compliments of the Winnipeg Jets and the Minnesota Wild – the Buffalo Sabres will also select again early in the second round with the 39th overall draft pick.
Thanks to the Minnesota Wild and the St. Louis Blues – Buffalo also holds the 49th overall selection.
If the Buffalo Sabres do end up moving in the first round of the NHL draft for a second time – I would expect one of these three picks to disappear – more likely the 31st overall pick.
Buffalo has the 61st overall selection in the third round – conditional to St. Louis.
Depending on what it costs to Tim Murray to move into the first round a second time if he can pull it off – Buffalo may not have this pick to depend on either.
Buffalo does not select in the fourth round of the draft. It holds the first pick in the final three rounds of the draft at 121, 151, and 181st overall.
Rounds two through seven will take place on Saturday.
