Tim Murray and the Buffalo Sabres are content – at least for now. [Buffalo News].
Let’s not rule out another move that will make us even happier under the rule of Tim Murray – but the focus is now going to turn to hire a coaching staff and stocking the farm with some veteran talent to help the team out in Rochester.
What is interesting is – Tim Murray is not shopping some of his more sought after players. Which means whatever rumor you hear about Tyler Myers – unless another GM blows the socks off Tim Murray.
It seems Tim Murray has his “core” of players he wants to take to battle this year – and is comfortable with that. It is now about depth and building the Rochester Americans.
For Cody McCormick, It was only ever about the Buffalo Sabres. [Olean Time Herald].
Sure, Cody McCormick isn’t the type of players that teams line up for and will grossly overpay in the opening minutes of the free agent frenzy. It is not the type of free agent signing that will get other free agents to turn their heads and say – hey Buffalo must be the new destination for guys that want to win, but for fans of the area – Cody McCormick wanting to come back should count for something.
A couple of teams were interested in the gritty forward, but McCormick told his agent just one thing – if we can make it work for Buffalo, don’t bother with other offers.
Too many “role” players call this area home. Why hasn’t that trickled over to some star power in free agency, because stars value winning over community.
The KHL is seeing its rise to rivalry with the NHL slowly peter out and fizzle. [Yahoo Sports].
I am actually surprised by this – and the NHL needs to be cautious. They aren’t going to be able to combat every league that crops up and wants it stars. The good news for the NHL – the allure of the higher paying KHL is diminishing, because sometimes, it is about more than just the paycheck.
It is a little too late in the year to be thinking about more teams in the NHL for the 2014-2015 season, but don’t discount a 32 team NHL. [The Hockey Writers]
