Buffalo Sabres Daily: Brandon Prophet, Prospect Depth, French Connection

Buffalo Sabres invite Saginaw Spirit defenseman Brandon Prophet to camp.  [mlive.com].

The Buffalo Sabres already have an ECHL affiliate in the Elmira Jackals – but could they be reaching an impromptu de facto relationship with the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL?

After drafting two prospects in the 2012 Draft from Saginaw, the Buffalo Sabres have reached out to the Spirit again, this time to invite defenseman Brandon Prophet to next week’s development camp to take place at the First Niagara Center.

Prophet joins the Buffalo Sabres as an undrafted prospect – after failing to entertain any suitors at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.  He isn’t the only Saginaw player to get an invite.  The Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers have invited undrafted Spirit players as well.

It seems as though this is the year of the defense for Tim Murray  – knowing he isn’t going to have a high caliber goaltender, he has increased our ability on the blue line.

How deep do the Buffalo Sabres actually run?  Check out the prospect depth chart.  [Die By The Blade].

Where do the Buffalo Sabres still have needs to address?  2013 saw the team draft defense only, 2014 they focused on offensive power.  Weith a fleury of draft selections especially in the first round of next years draft, the Buffalo Sabres need to start drafting a more well rounded compliment of players if they are going to maintain a prospect system that will fuel the championship culture that Tim Murray wants in place for years to come at all levels.

Did you know that today is a once in a lifetime day?  Sure you did, it is French Connection Day.  7-11-14.  A day where we can honor Rick Martin, Gilbert Perreault, and Rene Robert for their achievements as the best line in Buffalo Sabres history.

As you raise up your glass this evening in celebration of the weekend, lift one for Rick – who left us to early.  Lift one for Gil – who gave us the excitement, and lift one for Rene – who brought it all together.
