The Elmira Jackals are set to start their first season as an ECHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. This is the Jackals fifteenth season and their eighth season in the ECHL. The teams first seven years were in the UHL.
The Jackals will not play outside of their conference unless they make a deep run into the playoffs, with all seventy-two games against Eastern Conference Opponents.
If your not happy with the unbalanced alignment in the NHL, and your just starting to follow the ECHL because of the Jackals/Sabres affiliation – how is this for unbalanced. If your a Western Conference team, your guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, as their are only eight teams, five fewer than the Eastern Conference. Last year the Elmira Jackals were one of the five teams to miss the playoffs.
29 nine games will be against division foes, with 15 against the Reading Royals and 14 games against the Wheeling Nailers.
The Jackals will only face the South Carolina Stingrays, winners of the South division once this season.

If your interested in seeing the Jackals at home this year, or even on the road, you don’t have to worry about the drive home and work the next morning, as the ECHL schedule heavily relies on weekend games. There is only one Saturday during the Season that the team won’t play, and that is March 7th. 50 of the teams games occur on a Friday or Saturday. Friday the 13th in February is the only Friday the team has off during the regular season.
Elmira opens the season up with a two game homestand against the Kalamazoo Wings on October 17th and 18th. They will then cycle home and away games with three games against the Reading Royals.
January is the busiest month of the season for the Elmira Jackals, with fourteen games.
The team closes out their fifteenth annual campaign with a home and home series with the Wheeling Nailers on April 10th and 11th, with the final game of the regular season being played at their home arena, First Arena in Elmira.
