Buffalo Sabres Must See TV – Five Games To Circle

facebooktwitterreddit

Preseason is almost over, and the Buffalo Sabres regular season is almost upon us.  What games are you looking forward to as the schedule begins to unfold?  Here are a list of five games that you absolutely have to watch this season, regardless of the teams record.

Thursday October 9th, 2014 Buffalo Sabres vs Columbus Blue Jackets

This one is a no brainer.  There is nothing like a home opener.  With all of the roster moves, it is poetic justice each season to see the roster introduced player by player.  More importantly this season, will the Buffalo Sabres have the services of highly touted prospect Sam Reinhart in the lineup on opening night, and will it be a permanent spot, or a professional nine game tryout to see where the kid and the club are at.

Either way, it is opening night, and after a long hot summer, we could use the hockey.

Tuesday October 14th Buffalo Sabres @ Carolina Hurricanes

Nope, not just a random game on the schedule.  Everyone has their reason for wanting to see certain games, and my long time friendship/hateship with Cardiac Cane writer KP Kelly has me circling games on the schedule when we play in the Hurricanes in Raleigh.  There are enough transplanted Buffalo Sabres fans that attend these games and I know it drives her nuts.

There is also some senseless bet that we have between the two of us (I still owe her a six pack of beer from last season series.).

We haven’t set the terms or conditions for this season.

Saturday November 15th, 2014 Buffalo Sabres vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Despite the fact that First Niagara Center gets taken over by plenty of Toronto Maple Leafs fans, the first game between the two teams on the calendar is always one that can set the tone for the season series.  While the team played twice in the preseason as per their usual schedules, there was nothing that the league really needs to look out for this year when the two teams meet; unlike last year when we had the Phil Kessel vs John Scott debacle.

Josh Gorges waived his no trade from the Montreal Canadiens to come to the Buffalo Sabres, something he didn’t do for the Toronto Maple Leafs, citing his hatred for the team after years playing in Montreal.  I would love to see him catch anyone in Blue and White with a nice open ice hit.

Saturday December 27th Buffalo Sabres vs New York Islanders

What could probably be billed as the battle for the draft pick, if the Buffalo Sabres are interested in “losing” to guarantee a top draft pick in this upcoming draft selection, then the New York Islanders would be a team they would want to beat.  Ensuring the Islanders get zero points when the teams meet would go a small way in helping the New York Islanders stay out of the playoff race, and in the hunt for a lottery pick themselves.

With the Buffalo Sabres hoping that the Islanders pick pans out to be a top five draft pick as well – there will be plenty of standings watches going on in and around the organization to see where the Sabres and Islanders pick ends up.  This will be the teams first of two meetings at First Niagara Center.

Saturday April 11, 2015 Buffalo Sabres vs Pittsburgh Penguins

What will the team do for Fan Appreciation night this year?  Certainly we will see the team do the jersey off the back of the player give away (maybe more than once).  The final game at the First Niagara Center signals the end of the rebuild, with the Connor McDavid/Jack Eichel sweepstakes just two months away after the end of the season.

Bonus Game: Thursday February 26th Buffalo Sabres vs Vancouver Canucks

The return of Ryan Miller to the First Niagara Center in an opponents sweater.  He didn’t play in Buffalo last season when the St. Louis Blue’s hosted the Buffalo Sabres late last season.  Will Ryan Miller get a start in his first game back at First Niagara Center?
