Buffalo Sabres Catching Fire

After beating the defending Champion LA Kings and then knocking off the Calgary Flames the Buffalo Sabres have extended another winning streak to two wins in a row. The Sabres look to continue the winning feeling this Saturday when they take on a team they have struggled against in the Florida Panthers.  Sabres have successfully made it out of last place in the conference by getting a couple wins together with an 11-16-2 record as we move on in December. With the NHL Allstar game approaching soon some of the Sabres players are looking to get great numbers to help improve their playing ability and help their team get wins.

Once again Jhonas Enroth has been great between the pipes for the Sabres getting back to back wins and is now the first goalie in NHL History to record the first four shutouts of his career with 1-0 wins.

The great scoring continued as the Sabres are now starting to gell with Tyler Ennis, Zemgus Girgensons, Matt Moulson, and Marcus Foligno starting to get goal. Ennis and Girgensons scoring is great and usually expected when seeing the Sabres get goals, but with Moulson and Foligno getting into the picture it’s going to look fantastic now when goals will come from more then just one line. Tyler Ennis is getting a little more feisty out there to make things work, like the scrappy play he took away from the Flames player to pass the puck to an incoming Matt Moulson that lead to a great setup goal in the game against Calgary.

The line with Marcus Foligno and Chris Stewart is going to be special from seeing them skate pretty hard coming down the line on the rush to get goals. Fun fact to know after listening to Sabres great Rob Ray talk about the line and how powerful it can be with big guys like Foligno and Stewart coming down and stepping into those shots making it very hard for defenseman to defend against some big bodies. Getting the Sabres to score will be very easy when such underrated talent on this team starts to come together.

Not just offense, but defense is even stepping up on the offense position with players like Josh Gorges, Rasmus Ristolainen, Nikita Zadorov, and of course Tyler Myers stepping up to get this team goals. Josh Gorges is now starting to block shots like crazy and make things more easy for Enroth or Neuvirth in net, you would appreciate a defenseman who takes the extra blow to make it easier. It’s great to now see Ristolainen, Zadorov and Myers jump up in the offense to provide more chances especially with the quickness by all three guys who can go to the net and cause damage for the other team.

It’s just great right now to see some things going right, even after fans getting frustrated during the game against the Kings when the Sabres were playing slow and cautious to make things happen which eventually lead to a Tyler Ennis goal in the third period that helped the Sabres win the game 1-0. Cautious Hockey or not if the team is going good don’t correct them. Patience is a virtue with the Sabres and for now it looks like it’s starting to gel in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Sabres next game is Saturday against the Florida Panthers at First Niagara Center at 7 pm, then will host the Ottawa Senators on Monday night before heading to Winnipeg to take on the Jets.
