Buffalo Sabres fans, get ready for the NHL Draft. Your newest crop of Buffalo Sabres players is coming, as the draft is just over a month away now.

As the second round of the 2015 NHL Playoffs ended on Wednesday, this cleared up some questions as to where exactly the Buffalo Sabres will be picking coming June.

We found out roughly three weeks ago that the Buffalo Sabres will pick second overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Edmonton Oilers will pick first overall, while the Arizona Coyotes will select third overall. This was set several weeks ago at the NHL draft lottery, which the Sabres lost for the second straight season.

There was, however, still some uncertainty as to where else the Buffalo Sabres would be picking this coming June, depending on some playoff series and team standings.

Now, however, it’s been cleared up.

In addition to the second-overall selection, the Buffalo Sabres will also pick 21st overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft. That pick comes from the New York Islanders in the Thomas Vanek trade.

The Buffalo Sabres also held the 25th overall selection, but that will go to the Winnipeg Jets, as the Sabres’ lowest pick in the first-round. That transaction comes as a result of the deal that brought Evander Kane to Buffalo; the pick was originally owned by the St. Louis Blues, but came to Buffalo via the Ryan Miller trade.

Of course, this won’t be the first time the Buffalo Sabres pick second overall, as they selected center Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice with that pick in the 2014 draft.

That pick marked the first-ever time the Sabres held the second-overall selection, though they had picked first-overall several times in the team’s history. See: Gilbert Perreault, Pierre Turgeon.

This isn’t the first time the Buffalo Sabres have picked 21st overall, either. They used that pick to select goaltender Mika Noronen in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

The Buffalo Sabres will also pick:

  • 31st overall
  • 51st overall
  • 92nd overall
  • 122nd overall
  • 152nd overall
  • 182nd overall*

*This pick is a conditional pick sent to Winnipeg in the Jordan Samuels-Thomas trade. The condition is unknown, so it’s unclear if it’s been met.

The Buffalo Sabres have picked 31st overall three times in team history, selecting Brendan Lemieux in 2014, T.J. Brennan in 2007 and John Tucker in 1983.

They’ve never before picked with the 51st overall selection, but chose Neil Korzack in 1973 with the 92nd overall selection. The Sabres have also selected 122nd once before, picking up defenseman Ali Butorac in 1981, and picked up Francois Guay with the 152nd pick in 1986.

Finally, the Buffalo Sabres have selected 182nd overall multiple times in the team’s history. They picked up Adam Dennis in 2005 and Jiri Sejba in 1985.
