Buffalo Sabres Fan Chatter #1: Ottawa Senators

facebooktwitterreddit

Welcome back, Buffalo Sabres fans! As we kick off the season tonight, we also bring back a favorite of our Sabre Noise readers – the fan chatter.

For those who don’t know how it works, here’s a quick run-down.

Each game day, we’ll post a fan chatter piece with multiple questions: who’s going to score, face-off percentages, etc. Make your picks in the comments. We’ll tally them up and see who picks the most correctly after each game and cumulatively throughout the season.

Tonight, the Buffalo Sabres kick off what should be an exciting season. Jack Eichel makes his long-awaited NHL debut tonight. Evander Kane and Ryan O’Reilly make their debut with the Buffalo Sabres; so does Robin Lehner. The storylines heading into this season are numerous and all pretty exciting; it’s a great time to be a Buffalo Sabres fan.

Without further ado, here are your questions for the first fan chatter of the season:

Pick #1: Who will score the first goal of the season for the Buffalo Sabres? Will it be Eichel? (Wouldn’t that be a hoot?) How about one of the other newcomers? Maybe Sam Reinhart makes an impact early on…. who knows? We’ll give 25 points if you get this one correct. (And, if for some reason the Sabres fail to score on Thursday, we’ll carry over your answers to the next game, or however long it does take for the team to score.)

Pick #2: How many shots will the Buffalo Sabres register? One thing the Sabres had trouble with last season was putting up shots. There were multiple games where the team barely hit 10 shots and were badly outshot. Will that change to start this season? If you’re within 5, we’ll give you 10 points. If you get it right on the nose, we’ll give you 25.

Pick #3: How many goals will the Ottawa Senators score? We’ll give you 10 points if you get this one right.

Pick #4: How many hits will Mike Weber record? Weber’s always been a big-hitter on the ice. Tell us how many hits he’ll record in the season-opening game. If you get it right, we’ll give you 20 points. If you’re within three, we’ll give you 10.

Pick #5: Around the NHL. There are six other games on tap for the NHL tonight: WPG-BOS, PHI-TBL, EDM-STL, CAR-NSH, PIT-DAL and MIN-COL. Tell us who’s going to win each game (including the Sabres game). We’ll give 5 points for each correct guess; get all seven right and we’ll give you 65 points.

Let the games begin!
