Zach Bogosian Leads Buffalo Sabres Weekly Three Stars

The Buffalo Sabres won just one of three games this week, losing another game in overtime and one in regulation. That’s overall three of a possible six points earned.

The Sabres opened the week with a bout against the Montreal Canadiens.

Although both Zach Bogosian and Marcus Foligno tallied for the Buffalo Sabres – and both with special teams goals – it wasn’t enough to overcome the Habs.

Montreal ended up winning that game in overtime thanks to a goal by former Buffalo Sabres prospect Paul Byron.

Robin Lehner had 19 saves in the loss.

The Buffalo Sabres returned to action two days later to face the Ottawa Senators; this time, they’d come out on top, 3-1.

Sam Reinhart scored his 20th goal of the season, while Nicolas Deslauriers and Zach Bogosian also added goals.

Chad Johnson stopped 32 of 33 shots faced in the win.

Finally, the Buffalo Sabres fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Saturday in what some of the players called an “embarrassing” effort.

Brian Gionta had the lone Buffalo goal, while William Nylander, Connor Carrick, Martin Marincin and Milan Michalek all scored for the Leafs.

Johnson had 27 saves in the loss.

With another week behind us, it’s time to look at the three stars of the week for the Buffalo Sabres.

3. Sam Reinhart

I’ll admit, it was pretty hard to award a third star this week for the Buffalo Sabres.

No one really had a ~spectacular week, but I’m going to give this one to Sam Reinhart, if only for his performance against Ottawa.

Reinhart was held pointless against Montreal but registered two shots on goal in 16:49 ice time.

He had a strong game against the Sens, scoring his 20th of the season and also adding an assist.

He also had seven shots on goal that night, second only to Evander Kane‘s eight, and played 15:14.

Reinhart added one shot on goal and one hit against the Leafs.

2. Chad Johnson

Johnson appeared in two of three games this week for the Buffalo Sabres.

As previously mentioned, he stopped 32 of 33 shots faced in the win against the Senators.

He then stopped 27 of 31 against the Leafs.

Overall, Johnson is 17-15-3 on the season and could be relied upon going forward if Lehner really could miss the rest of the season.

1. Zach Bogosian

Finally, someone new gets the top star for the Buffalo Sabres!

Bogosian earned this one with his offensive efforts this week.

He had a goal against Montreal, adding an incredible eight shots on goal that night.

Bogosian also had a goal against Ottawa. He registered three shots as well.

Finally, he registered four shots on goal, three hits and one block against the Leafs and played exactly 25 minutes.

The season is quickly winding down for the Buffalo Sabres, with just nine games remaining in the regular season.

This week is a light one for the Buffalo Sabres, with just two games on tap between Monday and Sunday.

The Buffalo Sabres kick off the week by visiting the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday evening.

They’ll close out the week at home on Saturday, March 26, hosting the Winnipeg Jets for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
