The Buffalo Sabres look to head into their bye week with a four-game winning streak and a grip on a playoff spot.  Adam previews Sabres-Blackhawks.

Today, the Buffalo Sabres host local boy Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks. The lukewarm Sabres are riding high on a 3 game win streak while the Hawks swoop in with a 5 game win streak. It would be a great boost for the Sabres to come out with a win, but any points would be great in their struggle for a Wild Card spot before the NHL Bye Week.

As everyone in WNY, Southern Ontario, and North-Western PA knows, Patrick Kane will want to put on a show for his home town and America…unfortunately this late afternoon/evening’s game is being broadcasted by NBC (because all NBC wants to is showcase the major markets: CHI, BOS, NYI, PHI, PIT, WASH, yawnfudge the Canadian teams). REMINDER: mute the TV and put on the radio coverage; unless you want to be bored to death with stupid nonsense, quick facts, and boredom…

The last time Buffalo and Chicago squared off it was in Chicago on January 5th. It was another nationally televised game and naturally, with the lead late in the 3rd Period, Buffalo choked and let Chicago tie the game. Sadly, South Buffalo’s Kane won the game in Overtime…though it was difficult to fall asleep that night, at least Buffalo slid by with a valuable point.

Since the game is being spotlighted on primetime TV, we know that all of WNY, the entirety of Canada, NHL scouts and GMs, and maybe ½ million US viewers will be watching the game. All season long, the Buffalo Sabres have struggled to play a full 60 minutes of regulation hockey. The last time these two teams faced off, Chicago tested Buffalo and made the Blue & Gold play 60+ minutes and earn their freaking paycheck! I’m excited for today’s game!

Game Time Challenge:

Since today’s game is on NBC and Monday is a holiday for most people (not me because I’m a contract employee), I think we should turn it into another drinking game! The drunkest person wins! Everyone is a winner, especially if Buffalo wins!

Anytime one of the things below is mention, take a drink of your choice (acceptable drinks include: Molson Brador (Grandpa Ziggy’s favorite), Molson Ice, Molson Canadian (Grandpa Ziggy’s 2nd choice), Labatt Blue (Grandpa Ziggy’s 3rd choice), Labatt Blue Light, Genny Bock, Genny Ice, Genny “Red Eye”, Genny Cream Ale, Alexander Keiths, any Canadian beer I forgot, local brews, Honey Brown, Southern Tier, Butt Light, Butt-weiser, Steele Reserve (if your hard on cash), apple juice [that’s for you Little Ziggy], baby milk [that’s for you Annabelle], Ensure [that’s for all you old fogies that read this], and hard liquor [for all you peeps who don’t give a puck!])…go back to Colorado if you suck down that silver bullet…

  1. Every time it’s mentioned Patrick Kane is from South Buffalo
  2. Every time NBC states Patrick Kane is playing versus his hometown team
  3. Every time it’s stated that Marcus Foligno is from Buffalo
  4. Every time someone says Sabres’ Captain Brian Gionta is from Rochester
  5. Any time “Rochester Americans” is said
  6. Whenever there is a shot of downtown Buffalo, Harbor Center, Canal Side, or Niagara Falls
  7. Whenever the annoying announcer (probably “Doc”) is flapping his lips and a goal is scored

BONUS: If: Charlie the Butcher, Beef on Weck, Broadway Market, Ted’s Hot Dogs, Weber’s Mustard, or Loganberry is mentioned, you have to kill whatever is in your hand! (Game is over if Pierce-Arrow is mentioned…which we all know won’t happen).

*Disclaimer: I do not work for any of the breweries listed above, TV, nor radio stations. If I did, I’d have an endless supply of beer or fired from the radio or TV station already.

Lastly, with two Kanes in Buffalo on the Eve of the NHL Bye Week, we might be privy to some sensational headlines! I just hope defense lawyer Paul Cambria has his calendar clear this upcoming week!
