Instead of an end of the season press conference – The Buffalo Sabres organization – in the form of team president Ted Black and general Manager Darcy Regier – ended up on the end of a firing line that included Jerry Sullivan and Mike Harrington.

Most of the press conference revolved around key points by all present journalists:

1.  Terry Pegula’s wealth.

2.  Why the team was raising ticket prices.

3.  Why is Darcy Regier still at the helm.

4.  Why is Terry Pegula not at the press conference

5.  What is the vision for the team going forward.

Some of the key points of the press conference haven’t changed from year to year.  The Buffalo Sabres were not good enough to make the playoffs.  Darcy leaned on free agency again – and the tone of the answer was the only change.  He still didn’t want to build the future of this organization on free agency – in the past because he would mention that teams over pay in free agency.

This year, he mentions how he doesn’t feel that the free agency pool is deep enough or will get deep.  During the press conference I posted on facebook, Darcy Regier will live or die by the draft – and it seems as if the team will let him die by the draft.  Darcy Regier is here through the end of his contract, which goes through next season.  Maybe the team has learned not to give Darcy any more extensions until he proves that he can handle the workload.  He once again wants the Buffalo Sabres fans to have patience in the system, and let them build their franchise into a winner.
