For Tyler Myers – the 2013 is over. During last night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens; Tyler Myers was blocking shots with the Buffalo Sabres down two men.

For the young defender, not only were his efforts in vain; Montreal scored on the 5-3, but they have also ended his 2013 regular season. With little hope for the playoffs, Tyler Myers is already preparing his summer home, thanks to a broken leg suffered when blocking one of two shots on the Montreal powerplay.

Watching the play unfold, it was the best the Sabres penalty kill looked in awhile, Myers got down and blocked two wild shots from the point, and left he ice in obvious pain after his shift. The Buffalo Sabres confirmed today that the Sabres tallest defenseman suffered a broken leg on the play.

The Buffalo Sabres were on an extended penalty kill down two men, as Mike Weber was in the box for delay of game (puck over the glass) and Jochen Hecht in the box for high sticking. It is the end of another difficult season for the highly touted defenseman – who should be leading the team instead of constantly drawing the ire of fans and management.

Looks like next season will be another watch and wait to see how Tyler Myers performs.

Tyler Myers returns to the lineup tonight for the Buffalo Sabres, coming off a two game benching by head coach Lindy Ruff.

Will the two game sit down be enough to teach the kid that he needs to get his head right – or will we be seeing the Tyler Myers we are use to tonight when the Buffalo Sabres take on the Ottawa Senators?

This is the second time in as many seasons that has seen Tyler Myers, once a Calder Trophy winner as Rookie of the Year, has seen the inside of the press box with nothing wrong with his physical self.

Too much weight on the mental shoulders of a young prospect? We see other prodigy players come out of the draft and hit the NHL running, not losing a step in their game.

Tyler Myers had a break out season, until everyone learned his game, and he got a shiny new contract. Does this foreshadow bad things for Mikhail Grigorenko who has barely been able to scratch the scoresheet given his linemates?

Myers responded well the last time he was benched – tonight we will see how he responds this season to the fact that the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals are on the worst offenders list when it comes to goals against. Myers lost 16 games last year as a healthy scratch. Myers responded to the Buffalo News on his benching:

“I’m embarrassed, and I should be,” said Myers, who was benched for a game early last season. “Two years in a row now. It doesn’t feel very good, but silver lining, I responded the way I needed to last time, and this is what I have to do this time.”

Through the start of the season, Tyler Myers who should be the beast on the blue line for the Buffalo Sabres – has one goal (although the one goal is a game winner), and no other points to speak off. He is a team worst -9. Teammates almost in as deep as Myers are Drew Stafford and blue line guard Jordan Leopold who are a -6.

In other news, how does Cody Hodgson become a -3 when lined up with Thomas Vanek?

Harrison Mooney of Puck Daddy fame is calling for a hat trick out of Myers tonight so he can erase some of the shame involved with his poor start and subsequent benching. I don’t need offense from Tyler Myers. I need him to be strong on the puck, and lay guys out when he hits them, causing them to think twice as they enter the Buffalo Sabres zone with the puck.
