As the Buffalo Sabres get ready to face off against the Florida Panthers, expect to see Jimmy Vesey involved in a high scoring matchup.
It’s been a fun start to the year Sabres fans, the Sabres are 3-0-1 and the team has looked every bit of that record. Hopefully your fantasy team have been having an equally fruitful start. If you’ve been keeping up with our fantasy tips you know we’ve been off to a pretty good start with the advice.
Here’s why Jimmy Vesey is a smart start against the Florida Panthers. Vesey is one of only four Sabres that have played in every game, who have yet to put up a point (Johan Larsson, Henri Jokiharju and Vlajdimir Sobotka).
However, Vesey still has a +/- of 2 and has only attempted 3 shots, which is the lowest out of the four players with no points. Another positive, is that in spite of Vesey’s low production thus far, his line that also includes Casey Mittelstadt and Conor Sheary (now Evan Rodrigues) has been producing points this year.
Now with Sheary sidelined and listed week to week, someone is going to need to fill that void. Expect Vesey to step up into that role as he is more than capable.
This game against Florida could be the game we finally start to see Vesey fill that void. While Florida is deep and has a solid four lines, their second and third defensive lines which Vesey will primarily be stacked up against, rank near the bottom of the league according to Corsica Hockey.
If the Sabres want to keep winning games the way they have been, the third line is going to have to keep producing without Conor Sheary. With the lackluster numbers Evan Rodrigues has put up over the years, expect Vesey to be taking the shots when the third line is called upon.
