If you told most Buffalo Sabres fans that the Sabres would be 9-2-2 after October they would have been thrilled, but now it’s about sustaining that success.
What an October it was for the Buffalo Sabres! The Sabres have been playing an aggressive style of hockey under new head coach Ralph Krueger and have exceeded all reasonable expectations. But now as the Sabres move on to the dog days of November, December and January it’s about proving October was no fluke. Here are some of the key games to look for in November.
November 8th and 9th: Back to Back games against Tampa Bay
Both of these games will be played in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the NHL’s international program. But for Buffalo, these are two fairly important games. Last season Tampa Bay had a record breaking season and was undoubtedly the best team in the league (despite their playoff misfortunes). Tampa Bay has been off to a fairly decent start this season, if Buffalo wants to prove they’re contenders in the Atlantic division they’ll need to play Tampa Bay close in both these games.
November 21st: On the road in Boston
The Boston Bruins may be the most complete team in the NHL this year. They are off to a scorching 9-1-2 start this season and sit on top of the Atlantic Division. If the Buffalo Sabres want to be playoff contenders rather than just a team who made the postseason, playing good in Boston would be a great early sign.
November 29th and 30th: Home and Home Against Toronto
Our bitter Atlantic Division rivals from just north of the border, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Toronto has a very good team this season and a MVP contender in Auston Matthews. This home and home series will give fans a good idea of who is the best of this rivalry in 2019-20 and both games should have crazy atmospheres at the arena.
