Streaking Buffalo Sabres Host Floundering Jets

Don’t look now, but the Buffalo Sabres are on their best streak since February 2014. Having won their last three games, the Buffalo Sabres will look to make it four in a row tonight as they host the Winnipeg Jets at the First Niagara Center in a pre-Thanksgiving matchup. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

To find the last time the Buffalo Sabres won more than three consecutive games, we’ve got to look all the way back to 2012, when they put up five wins in a row between March 19 and March 27. Since then, there’s been a handful of three-win streaks, albeit none since February of this year.

While the Buffalo Sabres are on a bit of a hot streak right now, the Winnipeg Jets have been up and down lately. The Jets have lost four of their last six games and were on a two-game losing streak before defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets last night.

The Jets came out on top, 4-2, over the Blue Jackets last night.

Tonight’s game is the first of two meetings between the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets this season. They’ll meet again in just a few short weeks with a matchup in Winnipeg on December 16. Overall, the Sabres are 3-6-1 in their last ten games against the Jets, but they’ll look to turn that around with a good start to this season’s series.

Players to watch for the Buffalo Sabres tonight include defenseman Mike Weber, who enters tonight’s game on a three-game point streak, with one assist in each of the last three games. Captain Brian Gionta has four points in his last two games, while Tyler Ennis has 10 points in his last 11.

  • Zemgus Girgensons and Matt Moulson have also been hot lately, while Jhonas Enroth is 2-0-0- in his last two games. Tyler Ennis still leads the Buffalo Sabres with 13 points in 21 games.

Re-joining the lineup tonight for the Buffalo Sabres may be forward Patrick Kaleta, who was kept out of Saturday’s game in Washington after the epic “snowed-in-and-missed-practice” ordeal. Yesterday, head coach Ted Nolan said he may use Kaleta at center today, as the team needs to fill the spot left empty by Cody McCormick. McCormick is currently going through concussion protocol, and with no one yet recalled from the Rochester Americans, the spot may be empty for Kaleta to try his hand at.

Defenseman Josh Gorges returned to practice but remains on injured reserve; he may return this weekend as the Buffalo Sabres face a pair of games against the Montreal Canadiens.

Players to watch for the Winnipeg Jets include Evander Kane, who is coming off a two-goal performance last night, including a power-play empty-netter. Right winger Blake Wheeler leads the Jets with 16 points in 23 games, including a team-high eight goals. Left winger Andrew Ladd isn’t far behind, also with eight goals.

Also keep an eye out for Bryan Little, who had a goal and assist last night in Columbus, and defenseman Jacob Trouba, who had a pair of helpers in last night’s win.

Can the Buffalo Sabres make it four in a row tonight, giving all of us fans something extra special to be thankful for heading into tomorrow’s American holiday?
