Buffalo Sabres Links: Season Tickets, Sled Hockey

Good morning, Buffalo Sabres fans! While the Buffalo Sabres have now been out of their season for over three weeks, the hockey world continues on, with the NHL, AHL and CHL playoffs well underway, plenty of talk about the future, and plenty of other hockey still happening in Buffalo.

First things first: other hockey in Buffalo. The IPC International Sledge Hockey World Championships were played in Buffalo over the past week at HARBORcenter. The event ended on Sunday, as the United States blanked Canada to win the gold medal. [Team USA]

This was a great tournament for Buffalo to host, and it’s even better to see the United States come out on top. Team USA allowed just one goal throughout the tournament, in an earlier game against Russia, en route to the gold medal win.

Team Canada took the silver medal, while Russia defeated Norway in overtime to talk the bronze.

HARBORcenter may be a good luck charm of sorts for Team USA, as the Americans also defeated Canada for the gold medal at the IIHF Women’s U-18 World Championships that were also held there just a few short months ago.

Of course, just because we’re heading toward the summer months, HARBORcenter won’t be quiet. There are still spring tournaments in the coming weeks.

Last week, we heard about the Buffalo Sabres raising their season ticket prices. But is the raise justified?

The folks over at Tip of the Tower wrote their feelings on the topic — but what do you think?

As of writing this, 42 percent of responses to Tip of the Tower’s poll thought that the season ticket price increase is totally unjustified. Of course, the bottom line is, justified or not, the NHL is a business, and the Sabres need to keep their prices competitive and at the bar with the rest of the league in order to qualify for revenue sharing.
