Buffalo Sabres Players: Predicting The Top Goal Scorer

This is the piece that I am sure everyone has been waiting on. I know I have been waiting to put it together so we could all discuss the biggest issue from last season; goal scoring. The Buffalo Sabres have made some improvements as a team to possibly fix this issue, but in the end, primary goal scoring will need to fall on one person in particular. The real question is who?

If anyone were to ask me which player was going to lead the Sabres in goal scoring at the start of last season, I would have shrugged my shoulders and had a real issue picking one (maybe I would have picked Ennis or Drew Stafford). This season, there are more choices for players that have a proven track record of scoring goals.

These three players that I say have the best shot at leading the Buffalo Sabres in goal scoring next season are Tyler Ennis, Evander Kane, and Jack Eichel.

Tyler Ennis proved over the last couple of seasons that he is a versatile forward that can both pass and shoot equally well. He led the Buffalo Sabres in goals (20) and points (46) and was the only real offensive threat the Sabres had besides Matt Moulson. Ennis has proven that he can be counted on in pressure situations to score goals, and his overall skill will let him see more scoring chances this year.

Ennis’ skills are especially useful on the power play as he can use his creativity and shiftiness to disorient opposing defenses. On top of that, his small stature and speed allow him to get to open places easier than other players. I also do not underestimate his willingness to go to the net. He is a feisty little man with an attitude (which is much appreciated).

Evander Kane was brought into the Buffalo Sabres organization last season while he was injured. It has always been expected of him to score goals more than anything else, and Buffalo fans will be looking for nothing less during the coming season. Praised for his elite level sot and his creativity in the offensive zone, Kane is undoubtedly one of the frontrunners for the Sabres goal scoring title.

Kane’s goal scoring ability will be key when it comes to the Sabres power play next season. His shot is heavy and precise, so I expect him to have key power play production.

Jack Eichel is going to be my sleeper pick. He has not played a single game in the NHL, but he brings the skill set of a goal scoring center. Drawing comparisons to Ryan Getzlaf, Eichel has all of the tools to be a top end scoring forward for the Sabres next season.

He may be a rookie, but he possesses an elite level shot on top of incredible hockey IQ. Combining those two qualities will be what puts Jack Eichel at the top of the Buffalo Sabres goal scoring chart. It may take him a little bit of time to find his stride, but I do believe he will challenge for the top spot.

As always, I must come to a decision for which player I believe is going to take the title. For the goal scoring title, I believe that Evander Kane is going to win it. He possesses the best shooting skills among the three players I chose, and has the best scoring pedigree of all of them. Eventually Jack Eichel may inch out over him in a couple of years, but for next season, Evander Kane is my choice to win the Buffalo Sabres goal scoring title.
