Buffalo Sabres Look To Avenge Home Loss Tonight In Dallas

This past Tuesday, the Buffalo Sabres were robbed of a victory by the Dallas Stars as yet again the coach’s challenge took back a goal; this time from Sam Reinhart. Tonight, they once again face off against the Stars and it should be solid back and forth game. The Stars have some serious firepower on their top couple of lines, but the Sabres are also pushing the envelope with their offense as well.

More from Sabre Noise

Last Tuesday night, the Buffalo Sabres found themselves down 2-0 in the third period against the Dallas Stars. The lead was cut in half by none other than Ryan O’Reilly, and then only minutes later Sam Reinhart scored on an absolute snipe goal top corner on the power play. Reinhart’s goal was called back due to the coach’s challenge (Tyler Ennis went offside) and it deflated the entire team and the building as well.

Tonight, the Sabres look to avenge that loss on home ice, in Dallas, and I expect both Sam Reinhart and Ryan O’Reilly to be at the forefront of that effort.

At this point in the season, we all might as well start referring to Ryan O’Reilly as “Mr. Everything,” because it’s an extremely well deserved title. Ryan O’Reilly leads the Buffalo Sabres in goals, assists, and points, and to add to it, he is the top face-off man for them as well. He penalty kills and produces on the power play, and its a refreshing sight to see every night. Hopefully he can keep it up in Dallas tonight.

Sam Reinhart has been a spitfire lately. He’s been producing points, or at least some key offensive scoring chances. Reinhart is one of the young guns that has been stepping up and playing well recently, and after being robbed by the coach’s challenge of a goal, I expect him to continue his stellar play tonight.

Even if he doesn’t start there in Dallas, I hope to see O’Reilly and Reinhart playing together on the same line tonight. They are both intelligent and hard working hockey players, and they both seem to feed off of one another quite well when playing together. To keep them apart would be close to insane at this point, especially while Buffalo is on a losing streak.

The Dallas Stars are top heavy with all of the firepower they have in their forward core with the likes of Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn spearheading it, but the area they fall short in is their goaltending. Though both Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi are capable starting goaltenders, they both struggle with consistency. the Buffalo Sabres will need to put more traffic in front of the net to offset their nerves, and take away as much power from them as possible.

Both goalies are susceptible to weak goals going in, so peppering the net with shots is another fantastic idea. With the top two Sabres lines studded with offensive talent now, players like O’Reilly, Reinhart, and especially Jack Eichel should take advantage of the softer goaltending.

That should mean a solid Sabres win tonight, as goals will be needed to win a game like this. The Dallas offense can outscore just about any other team in the league, so the Sabres need to match that.
