Cody Eakin

A few weeks ago, I said Cody Eakin was one of three Buffalo Sabres who wouldn’t be here next season. And as it stands, Eakin is a likely candidate to go elsewhere considering his $2.5 million salary.

Eakin makes this list, however, given the possibility he could return to Buffalo on a smaller deal, which would be less of a cap hit. And while it’s possible Eakin will seek the same money elsewhere when his contract expires, expect the Sabres to at least try to keep him around.

The well-traveled center has struggled from a production standpoint, converting a career-low 6.2% of all shots on goal. However, he takes care of the puck well with a 16:13 takeaway/giveaway ratio this season, and he’s also one of the best on the team at winning face-offs.

It’s hard to envision anyone paying $2.5 million (or more) to Eakin at this point in his career. He just isn’t productive enough. But he’s a solid fourth-liner these days with a knack of face-off wins.
