Colin Miller, Will Butcher, Mark Pysyk, Robert Hagg

The Sabres want to get younger at defenseman, so don’t be surprised if they end up swapping older talent for younger talent. They ideally want to get something out of Butcher, who has the highest salary of any defenseman on the team.

Colin Miller and Mark Pysyk figure to be sensational fits on a contender’s lower lines, while Robert Hagg will add a physical presence for someone. It would be great if the Sabres traded at least two of the above players and received younger talent in return at the position. Ideally, there would also be draft picks or prospects involved.

They have a lot of talent at defenseman as it stands, with Rasmus Dahlin, Mattias Samuelsson, and Casey Fitzgerald looking like long-term fixtures. Henri Jokiharju has also found himself on the first-pairing with Dahlin, so odds are he will remain in Buffalo for the long haul.

But the Sabres still need to solidify that third pairing. And they can do so by swapping any of the above defensemen for younger names.
