2022 Mock Draft 1.0 – Buffalo Sabres land Finnish prospect
By Sion Fawkes
Prospect #3: Owen Beck, C/Mississauga (OHL)
Many mock drafts have Beck going in the top twenty-five, so we are assuming that he will fall and the Sabres will scoop him up at 32nd overall. Initially, I had Ivan Miroshnichenko in this slot, but ongoing health concerns may drop him to the lower rounds. However, there is still a chance the Sabres or someone scoops up Miroshnichenko, regardless of his health issues.
That leaves Owen Beck, who recorded 51 points in 68 games played this season. Nick Richard of Dobber Prospects labels beck as a two-way center that can create scoring opportunities for his teammates when he isn’t displaying his above-average shooting ability.
Like Gauthier, Beck possesses decent size, at 6’0, 190lb. He is a complete player whose skating ability has drawn praise from scouts. Richard also noted that Beck already displays pro-level habits, which will come in handy when he eventually makes the transition to hockey’s higher levels.
Now, since this is Mock Draft 1.0, these picks are subject to change as the real NHL Draft approaches. Of course, rumors spread, smokescreens are thrown, picks are traded, etc. So be sure to check back in periodically to see if I made any updates to the Sabres draft board.
