Player #2: Mark Jankowski

Jankowski could be an ideal replacement for Cody Eakin. And of the two players, he makes much more sense to keep around.

While he does not win the face-off battle as well as Eakin, Jankowski is a younger player who will cost less in cap space. He recorded roughly the same average ice time on the fourth line, with a shooting percentage nearly three times better than Eakin’s.

Jankowski also showed growth during his stint in the AHL, scoring 27 times (10 + 17) in 32 games. He also had seven points (6 + 1) in the playoffs.

No, Jankowski isn’t a physical player and his 10 giveaways in 19 games last season is a cause for concern. But overall, his improvement in Rochester coupled with scoring five points in 19 contests in the NHL warrants him a new deal and a potential spot on the fourth line.
