Mason Marchment, LW

I wrote an earlier piece on Marchment, and he is the one player I can see Adams bringing in to man the lower lines. Like Burakovsky, Marchment enjoyed career highs with 54 games played, 18 goals, 29 assists, and 47 points.

He also has two-way tendencies, evidenced by his 18th place finish for the Selke Trophy this past season. Some in the Buffalo Sabres faithful believe he is too much like fellow Selke finalist, Rasmus Asplund, but I digress: Marchment is far more effective on offense.

While Asplund definitely has a role with the Sabres, he’s better suited for the energy line with a more complete player like Marchment taking a spot on the third line to potentially line up alongside the projected line featuring Kyle Okposo and Zemgus Girgensons.

Marchment’s contract sat at around $800,000 last season. But since he has just 90 career games, his asking price will be far cheaper than most in the top 30. My guess is he will start off at around $1.5 million, but some sources have said he could go for up to $3.5 million per season.

Marchment isn’t worth anything over $2 million, considering his lack of NHL experience. So expect Adams to make a move if he can bring him in for $2 million or less. Personally, I feel he’s worth closer to the $1.5 million mark, but $2 million isn’t exactly breaking the bank.
