How will Owen Power fare during his rookie season?

Owen Power enjoyed an outstanding cameo during the Buffalo Sabres final eight games. But opponents will know his tendencies in 2022-23, so don’t be surprised if he takes a step back early on. Fortunately for Power, Don Granato and not Ralph Krueger is coaching this team, meaning Power can afford to experience some growing pains and make a few mistakes.

I am expecting Power to see time in situations he is both familiar and unfamiliar with. So in other words, if he is in a situation in which he is less familiar, expect some mistakes here. Fortunately for Power, he has a lot of experience surrounding him and he could likely pair with Ilya Lyubushkin, who has played professional hockey for nine seasons.

Power also made for a dynamic duo with Henri Jokiharju during those last eight games. And it should surprise no one if the Power-Jokiharju combo returns on the second pairing for 2022-23.

Overall, mistakes will be made, but you should also expect a lot of ups from Power this season. And no, winning the Calder Trophy is not out of the question. Power is definitely more than capable of doing so.
