2 – They are just a few points behind in the wild card race

Despite the four-game losing streak, the Buffalo Sabres are only six points behind in the wild card race as of February 15th. This is equivalent to being just three measly games back in other sports, of course, assuming those currently slotted in the wild card slots lose in regulation.

But right now, the negativity is so ripe you’d think they’re 16 points back as opposed to six. While it’s wishful thinking to believe the Sabres will make the playoffs as one of the Atlantic’s top three teams, snagging a wild card spot is not off the table.

Don Granato cited complacency as the reason for the latest slump. And if that’s the case, a bit of grit and toughness will go a long way as the Blue and Gold continues to fight for their first playoff appearance in over a decade. Of course, they can slip further behind with more poor play, but let’s not count them out just yet.
