Buffalo Sabres: 5 picks from last three seasons to get excited about
By Sion Fawkes
1 – Matt Savoie
Matt Savoie got his first taste of professional hockey during the Calder Cup Playoffs, and it became clear he needed to add size and strength. Yet while he made very little impact, he could wind up in the Buffalo Sabres lineup just so he can gain eligibility to spend more time in Rochester on a conditioning assignment, before a potential stint in the World Juniors and ultimately joining his junior hockey team (they won’t be the Winnipeg Ice next season).
Once back in the juniors, look for Savoie to once again dominate. At worst, he will be with the Amerks in 2024-25, though he may finally crack his way into the Sabres lineup if there is room. Overall, he ranks number one on this board because of the unique season he may have, the fact he is a former top ten pick, and the amount of overall upside he brings.
