Sabres Are More Than Meets the “EYE”

Just as it seemed the Buffalo Sabres were trying to shake the miserable start to the season and get down to playing some real hockey with some real results, the injury bug sets in.  And it appears that someone is more upset with Tim Connolly’s lack of effort than I am.

Drew Stafford still can’t hit anybody.  I mean, he didn’t do that anyways so whats the big deal?  Frankly I hadn’t missed him as of late.  You know what we call that? Trade bait.  If your not missed during an absence, your not needed.  The Sabres have plenty of prospects ready in Portland that actually want to play in the NHL.

Jochen Hecht was starting to turn it on, but he isn’t skating with the team either.  Could mean another setback for his game, I mean, once he comes back he is going to have to take another twenty games or so to warm back up and start scoring.

Rob Neidermayer is now sidelined because of knee surgery that he really needed back at the start of training camp because that is how long his knee has been bothering him.  Did the Sabres not require him to take a physical before they signed him?  Or did they just rush him through the process thinking that just having his name on the roster was going to bring credibility?

Tim Connolly – I am going to start this by saying just one thing about Tim Connolly – HE NEEDS TO BE OFF THIS TEAM.  His own teammates can’t stand him.  Word on the street is right now that Derek Roy suckered him in the eye during Ryan Millers annual catwalk for charity.  Really, you let yourself get punched in the eye by Derek Roy?   Two things on that is – aren’t you tall enough that Derek Roy can’t reach your eye and really, Derek Roy just punched you?  No wonder you have a groin injury…maybe you need the time off from the ice to figure out if you have anything left attached to your groin or if you really want to play hockey anymore.  SERIOUS  – GET ON THE FIRST BUS OUT OF BUFFALO.  Do yourself the favor and put yourself on waivers – don’t worry, you won’t have to sell your house in Buffalo – no one will claim you, and you can still live there, cuz Portland of the AHL doesn’t want you either.  True or not, it makes for one hell of a story.

On the whole Derek Roy punched Tim Connolly (I am going to be laughing about that one all day) – good for him.  I think that shows a little bit of leadership.  How many times have guys maybe gone and talked to Tim about his game – and it goes in one ear and out the other.  I would say poor timing by Roy, but if the rest of the team wants to line up and take head shots on Timmy, I’ll pull out the ropes and start selling tickets.  We probably won’t let this issue die, as more develops (if more develops) you will probably see us write more about it.  HA, Derek Roy punches Tim Connolly, thats like getting beat up by your little sister.

Jhonas Enroth needs to enroll in a frequent flyer club –  because it looks like his duties in Buffalo just increased.  With Ryan Miller nursing his annual “were going to miss the playoffs so I better be injured” injury – and Lalime being, well Lalime, he could be starting enough games this year to bring himself out of rookie status.  I miss seeing a goalie here full time wearing number 1 anyways.  Welcome to the bigs kid.

To help stem the tide of injuries and prevent more, the Buffalo Sabres have called up prospects Luke Adam and Colin Stuart from the AHLs Portland Pirates.
