The Buffalo Sabres have come a long way in adding depth to the organization. One of the area’s that has seen the biggest improvement is the centre position. Two seasons’ ago the Sabres were grasping at straws to find players to fill the centre hole, they even put Luke Adam on the first line. But after two drafts and some solid trades the Buffalo Sabres no longer have a hole up the middle. In fact according to Hockey’s Future the Sabres have 17 Sabres “prospects” who can play centre in addition to Cody Hodgson, Tyler Ennis and Steve Ott. Come training camp there will be roughly 9 players battling for 4 centre spots, which Centres’ will make the cut?

Cat – you left Armia off the list. What I see is:
I could see Larsonn and Girgensens moving up, especially if Leino gets hurt and if Stafford-Ennis-Foglino don’t regain their chemistry. What I’m excited about is all the talent we have, the fact that our youngsters want to win a spot in Buffalo vs. Rochester and more importantly – they don’t like to lose. While we are a young team, I think we are going to surprise people.
Now that Henrique has signed his deal – it will be interesting if the other holdouts fall into place.

Left him off the opening day roster? I was pretty sure he’d be there I just didn’t know where so I didn’t want to start a big debate about him.
I fully agree the young team is going to be exciting and do a lot better than people expect… so much talent coming up not much room for mediocrity

Armia will not make the team, he hasn’t played on game in the NHL.

Ennis will be converted back to wing. He’s not good as a center. Armia won’t make the roster for a couple months anyway unless he wows a tonne in the AHL or in camp. I see

Vanek – Hodgson – Stafford (Only way he gets traded is if he gets points)
    Leino – Grigorenko – Ennis
    Foligno – Girgensons – Ott
    ? – Porter – Flynn/Tropp/Kaleta

There’s absolutely no reason to have Larsson up to play on the 4th line. I think Kaleta should be traded as Tropp and Ott do much better job than him. Ennis IMO should be another trade candidate along with Safford and Miller.

I am happy not to be Rolston. Other than a first line of Hodgson, Vanek and Stafford (a least for the first 10 games or so), I haven’t the foggiest notion what the other lines should look like.

I hear you on that one… there are just so many endless possibilities on the line combo’s for this season.
