man for the “C”. While contract negotiations seem to have been stopped in their tracks Hodgson has hinted that he wants to stay in blue and gold for the foreseeable future. If he does get the long-term contract he’s looking for, there’s a slim a chance he won’t become captain of the Sabres during his tenure.

But is Hodgson ready to wear the C and lead a team of young players nearly as in-experienced as himself? No. Hodgson has just 2 “full” NHL season’s under his belt and has been plagued with scrutiny throughout that time. Hodgson could use a little more seasoning before he’s ready to lead the Sabres through a successful rebuild.

If the Sabres do lock Hodgson up long-term and want to proceed with him as their future giving him the C would be risky. He’ll need time to grow into that role and find himself as a hockey player, but he should have Steve Ott along to mentor him. Speaking of Ott…
