Buffalo Sabres Daily Dasher: Tom Golisano, IIHF, Stanley Cup

facebooktwitterreddit

Buffalo Sabres fans – most of you are also Buffalo Bills fans – and this morning reports are surfacing that a former Buffalo Sabres owner is interested in bidding on the Buffalo Bills to keep them in Western New York.  [WGR550].

Not sure how we should feel about this.  Tom Golisano is the same Buffalo Sabres owner that didn’t overly care too much about the product on the ice, so long that his business operations were in the black.

If you know me personally, hockey is what I live for.  I watch football if its on where I am at, and I am a fan of the Buffalo Bills, I just don’t go over the top.  I have never been to a game, I have tailgated.  Maybe Golisano, the Rochester based business man is more of a football fan than a hockey fan.

Don’t get me wrong though – the Sabres weren’t bad under Golisano’s ownership.

If your following the IIHF World Championships in Minsk, Belarus; several members of the Buffalo Sabres organization are getting ready for the playoff round.  Cody Hodgson, Tyler Myers and Jake McCabe are all set to play in the playoff round.  [Sports Media 101]. Unfortunately for Ted Nolan and Zemgus Girgensons, the tournament is over.  Latvia finished 3-4 in the tournament, good enough for sixth place.  The best showing for Team Latvia in international competition.  Good luck to Team Canada and Team USA as they approach the medal round. It only takes a hot goalie to steal a game or two in the Stanley Cup playoffs and dictate the outcome of a series for their team.  Who has been the hottest goalie of this years playoffs?

[FiveThirtyEight]. Will his departure from Buffalo mean the permanent decline of Ryan Miller?  After flopping in the playoffs does he really have what it takes to take even a good team and help carry them in the playoffs?  Questions have to be on the mind of any GM that wanted to sign Miller on July 1 – can he ever be as good as he was during the Vancouver Olympics or his Vezina year? I still think the Chicago Blackhawks have the total package again this year and will be back to back Stanley Cup Champions.

For the Buffalo Sabres, and likely the Florida Panthers just one pick ahead of them – the news of the day will be made early with who those two franchises pick with selections number one and two.  Does the draft only have to be about prospects selected in the 2014 NHL Entry draft?

There could be plenty of wheeling and dealing done between tables this year.  [USA Today].

It is no secret the Buffalo Sabres want to draft high this year and next.  Does that mean they won’t make other moves.  We are only assuming at this point guys that finished last year will be on the team next year, but the months of June and July still could lead to some changes on who will be wearing blue and gold for training  camp.
