Buffalo Sabres Daily: Tyler Ennis, All Star Jerseys

The Buffalo Sabres are near ready to announce a deal with Tyler Ennis.  [SI.com].

If you want to believe the reports, the rumors, and the hearsay, which are all saying the same thing – Ennis is going to be the third highest paid player on the Buffalo Sabres roster, behind Tyler Myers and Matt Moulson.

The deal puts the Buffalo Sabres as resigning Ennis for 4.6 million dollars, with Myers looking at the top with 5.5 million, and Matt Moulson topping the forwards at 5 million.

The Buffalo Sabres have yet to acknowledge they signed last years leading goal scorer, but Kevin Weeks tweeted out to watch for an announcement, and multiple sources close to the Buffalo Sabres have said its a done deal.

Five years 23 million dollars?  Sure he was a bright spot on roster that scored no goals – but is 21 goals something to get that excited about?  I would have expected maybe a three year deal – a little bit longer of a contract than his bridge contract, but nothing in the realms of this deal.  I just don’t think he has the value.

If the Buffalo Sabres can keep him on the wing – he shows more value – but on a team looking to get bigger, Ennis will play a second or third line role – so a little overpaid in my opinion.

Who has the weaker division?  [The Hockey News].

If the Metro and the Atlantic are the weakest divisions in hockey – then you really have to give credit to the Western Conference teams this year, and in the past.  If the Western Conference is the harder division to play in – then winning the Stanley Cup out of the 4 out of the last five times means the Clarence Campbell winners have had a tougher road to travel to get their, to find themselves a weaker opponent in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Will the Stanley Cup ever come back East?  Should Tim Murray be trying to build a West Coast team with the Buffalo Sabres?

Neon Green and Black at the All Star Game?  [Icethetics].

Maybe the NHL and the Columbus Blue Jackets want to make a statement with the return of the All Star Game?  We haven’t seen one in two years because of the lockout and the Olympics, and now the league wants to reveal a somewhat retro “electric green” infused jersey?

I am sorry – but the All Star game has long since gone gimmick – and many fans ignore the mid season tradition.  But if your trying to lure us back – go full on orange and black with the NHL crest, and stop trying to roll out a fancy less hockey looking jersey every year for fans to spend their dollars on.  Oh sure, you will sell a lot of them and its all about the revenue so to hell with what I think.

We have all star teams skating around like Monster drink cans – giving me less of a reason to watch the game.  I am sure it will be leaked before hand, but it appears we will find out what the All Stars are wearing at the Winter Classic.
