Buffalo Sabres Daily: Gambling, NHL 15 And Climate Change

Buffalo Sabres give Jordan Samuels-Thomas a chance at making the NHL.  [Sports Edge].

Ok, so this link makes it into today’s feature, because the state of Connecticut really needs the Hartford Whalers back.  It’s not that the written piece was bad – its the typical filler piece that is written this time of year about a prospect.

Sure the journey for JST has been a long one, drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers, not wanted by the Winnipeg Jets and traded to the Buffalo Sabres.  But what is more interesting is the video broadcast.

Is there really a reason in the 21st century – with modern technology what it is – that a newscast should still be using the Buffalo Sabres old logo?  I mean was it really necessary to pull out the “buffaslug” logo that adorned the front of the Sabres jersey from 2006-2010?  I mean it is not like we just changed this summer and the NHL Media package has been update right?

Hockey and gambling go hand in hand.  [USA Today].

It isn’t news that people with money like to play with it, well sometimes.  Whether it is in the stock market or gambling, it is how the rich get richer sometimes.

Making news in Buffalo headlines recently was Thomas Vanek and Nathan Paetsch, but for all the wrong reasons.  Their names have recently come up in connection with a federal gambling investigation. But is gambling in sports all that bad?

Sure it is taboo – because for some, casino’s and gambling are like a tax on the poor – the allure of hitting it big, a dollar and a dream right?  But sports and betting go hand and hand for many.

I am not a big gambler.  Sure friendly wagers once in awhile with friends.  I recently went to casino with an uncle I haven’t seen in years.  Walked out a winner.  Its a rarity – I don’t do it often, and I rarely ever win.  To each their own?

What are you looking forward to next season for the Buffalo Sabres? [Die By The Blade].

There is a lot to look forward to, but unfortunately the team will likely be bad again.  What is it about the team that you are looking forward to?  Here are some options:

  • The return of Matt Moulson.
  • Sam Reinhart
  • Mikhail Grigorenko
  • A new look on defense
  • The Rochester Americans
  • Just give me hockey

Sure there are plenty of more options – so lets here it, what about the 2014-2015 season has you itching for October?

NHL 15 looks awesome with the new skill stick right? [NESN].

The more I see these next generation consoles doing great things for the the gaming world – I am less interested about the release of NHL 15, and will likely save my 60 dollars come September.

But that is only because I am still rocking the XBox 360 at home.  I haven’t yet gone out and upgraded to the XBox One or the Playstation 4 – and if your in the same boat that I am – don’t think you are going to get the same experience as your friends that have upgraded.

NHL 15 will be similar on the older consoles to NHL14.  Maybe it is time for an upgrade.

Climate change could threaten the NHL and hockey at large.  [Think Progress].

The NHL has released a sustainability report – and warmer weather and a lack of clean water could spell disaster for the hockey world.
