Summer is dwindling down to a close, and for the Buffalo Sabres, it will be back to business sooner than later. Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone. With just forty-one days remaining in the off season, it is time to start taking a closer look at the Buffalo Sabres schedule, one month at a time.
The Buffalo Sabres kickoff the 2014-2015 campaign at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday October 9th. The home opener is one of just five home games for the Sabres in the opening month of the season. The remaining six of the eleven games will come on the road.
Columbus is eager to get the season started and capitalize on what was probably the most success season in franchise history. After making the playoffs for the first time since the 08-09 campaign, and the second time in franchise history – the team finally won its first playoff game.
Now its time to get a series under their belt.
If the Buffalo Sabres were hoping for a playoff push, you wouldn’t want to face tough teams early, but a lackluster effort against good teams could send the Buffalo Sabres on a downward spiral if a slippery-slope of losing ensues.
After the last six seasons have brought mixed post season results, the Blackhawks remain a viable contender for the Stanley Cup. Buffalo get’s to see the Los Angeles Kings, the defending Stanley Cup Champions early in the season. Buffalo gets Los Angeles in the fifth game of the Kings six game home stand.
Buffalo closes out their three game trip through the state of California by playing against the San Jose Sharks. With three good teams in Cali – the Buffalo Sabres could be a very tired, and defeated hockey club at this point.
The first of four games against the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.
Not a busy month by any stretch of the means, but the Buffalo Sabres only face nine teams in their first eleven games of the season.
They have three back-to-back situations this month, 13/14, 17/18, and 22/23.
