Buffalo Sabres Schedule: October BreakDown

Summer is dwindling down to a close, and for the Buffalo Sabres, it will be back to business sooner than later.  Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone.  With just forty-one days remaining in the off season, it is time to start taking a closer look at the Buffalo Sabres schedule, one month at a time.

The Buffalo Sabres kickoff the 2014-2015 campaign at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday October 9th.  The home opener is one of just five home games for the Sabres in the opening month of the season.  The remaining six of the eleven games will come on the road.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Oct 9, Buffalo Sabres

For most fans who don’t get a into the preseason activities, this will be their first chance at seeing rookie prospect Sam Reinhart, possibly.

Columbus is eager to get the season started and capitalize on what was probably the most success season in franchise history.  After making the playoffs for the first time since the 08-09 campaign, and the second time in franchise history – the team finally won its first playoff game.

Now its time to get a series under their belt.

Chicago Blackhawks

Oct 11, Buffalo Sabres

Immediately on the road – the Buffalo Sabres get one of the best in the West early in the season.

If the Buffalo Sabres were hoping for a playoff push, you wouldn’t want to face tough teams early, but a lackluster effort against good teams could send the Buffalo Sabres on a downward spiral if a slippery-slope of losing ensues.

After the last six seasons have brought mixed post season results, the Blackhawks remain a viable contender for the Stanley Cup.  In those six years they have four conference finals appearances, two Stanley Cup appearances, two Stanley Cups, and two first round exits.  What is in store for the Blackhawks this year?

Anaheim Ducks

Oct 13, Buffalo Sabres

Back at home for a Monday afternoon.

October 13th the Buffalo Sabres will host the Anaheim Ducks at First Niagara Center for a rare Monday afternoon game affair.  The teams will face-off at 3PM.

Carolina Hurricanes

Oct 14, Buffalo Sabres

Our first NBC game of the season, and it could it be one of the last trips to Raleigh the Sabres make?

Could the Buffalo Sabres be facing the Carolina Hurricanes for one of the last times?  Is there enough money left in Raleigh, or will the team be moved yet again?  One writer thinks its absurd.

Two familiar faces return to First Niagara Center on this trip, Nathan Gerbe and Andrej Sekera return to Buffalo with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Florida Panthers

Oct 17, Buffalo Sabres

Another team mixed in the relocation rumors.

With instability abound with the Florida Panthers, you have to wonder what sort of team they are going to put on the ice.  The plus for Florida is they have a goalie.

Boston Bruins

Oct 18, Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo faces their second back-to-back game hosting the mighty Boston Bruins.

The Buffalo Sabres host the Boston Bruins in second back-to-back game of the young season.  It is funny, even in years past, it has not always been the better team that walks away victorious.  Even bad last year, Buffalo vs Boston games gave fans something to cheer about.

Anaheim Ducks

Oct 22, Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo won’t see this team again all season.

Well that’s one opponent quickly out of the mix on the schedule as the Buffalo Sabres start their West Coast trip with another game against the Ducks.

Los Angeles Kings

Oct, Buffalo Sabres

California trip continues.

Buffalo get’s to see the Los Angeles Kings, the defending Stanley Cup Champions early in the season.  Buffalo gets Los Angeles in the fifth game of the Kings six game home stand.

San Jose Sharks

Oct 25, Buffalo Sabres

California trip ends with stop in San Jose.

Buffalo closes out their three game trip through the state of California by playing against the San Jose Sharks.  With three good teams in Cali – the Buffalo Sabres could be a very tired, and defeated hockey club at this point.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Oct 28, Buffalo Sabres

One more hurdle before the Buffalo Sabres can return to the friendly confines of First Niagara Center, and that is a stop at the Air Canada Centre.

The first of four games against the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.

Boston Bruins

Oct 30, Buffalo Sabres

Busy month for the Buffalo Sabres closes at home against the Boston Bruins.

Not a busy month by any stretch of the means, but the Buffalo Sabres only face nine teams in their first eleven games of the season.

They have three back-to-back situations this month, 13/14, 17/18, and 22/23.
