Even though the Buffalo Sabres are not playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, these players give you plenty of reason to tune in!

While the fanbase may be divided over just how close the 2015-16 Buffalo Sabres were to making the playoffs, there really is not much debate about one thing: even if the current Sabres roster could get into the postseason in 2017, this team is pretty much a quick out in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Buffalo is still at least 3-4 players away from being a legitimate threat to win a playoff series.

As in any year, there are three different ways in which the front office of the Buffalo Sabres can look to improve the roster: through the draft; through trades; and through free agency.

More from Sabre Noise

As the 2016 NHL Entry Draft draws closer, we here at Sabre Noise will whip up at least one mock draft, and we’ll do our best to cover any trade rumors that hit the World Wide Web.

For now, though, I want to focus our attention on free agency – specifically, pending UFAs who are enjoying the postseason as we speak.

Why only focus on pending UFAs that are currently enjoying the “real” season in the NHL?  Well, why not?  Gives us a reason to watch, for starters.  Besides – the Sabres want to bring winners into the 716, not losers.  And we all know that, if you didn’t make the playoffs, you’re just a big, fat loser.

So: in no particular order, here’s a look at the five UFAs I will be paying the most attention to for as long as their teams remain in the hunt for Lord Stanley’s Cup.

And I was just kidding about the loser part, so delete that angry comment you were in the process of typing!
