Marcus Foligno

“Marcus Foligno for captain, what is she smoking?!?” Yes I know, suggesting Foligno as a candidate to captain the Sabres through a rebuild is a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. While Foligno may not be ready to captain the Sabres anytime in the next two-three seasons,

there will come a time when he’s ready. Foligno has all the tools required to be a future captain, he kind of reminds me of a young Steve Ott. He’s big, tough, isn’t afraid to drop the mitts or go to the dirty areas and he has a knack for scoring. Foligno has spunk and the heart of a champion, he is determined to win and at age 22 is already turning into a solid power forward.

Sure Foligno still has a lot to learn and needs some more experience but he’s not far off from stepping into the captain seat. He has the respect of his teammates and took a leadership role with the Rochester Americans during the lockout. Entering the third year of his entry level contract Foligno is hungry to prove his worth to the Sabres, he knows he has to be better than last season and could be poised for a breakout season.

It won’t be long before Foligno is wearing a letter on his chest and leading the Sabres into the playoffs.
