If you want a skilled forward like Hodgson to lead the team but are a little afraid of Hodgson’s in-experience than Thomas Vanek would

be the perfect candidate. The only problem is Vanek doesn’t seem too committed to the re-build and with only one more season left on his contract he could turn into a one year captain before jumping ship. Naming Vanek captain would be the right thing to do if you want to reward a skilled player, who has stuck with the franchise and put the team on his back at various times throughout his tenure.Vanek is arguably the most skilled player on the Sabres roster, so he doesn’t lack any talent. Vanek also has the respect of his teammates and is willing to answer questions about his teams play night after night, but is he willing to sort out locker-room politics or set the record straight in the room?

There was a lot of out-cry when Jason Pominville was given the “C” over Vanek by Lindy Ruff as many felt Vanek deserved the role of captain. Even Vanek himself was a little shocked and hurt by his former coaches decision. Thomas Vanek would be a solid choice as captain, the only question is, will he still be a Sabre come February?
