Buffalo Sabres: Winners, losers from the Calder Cup Playoffs
By Sion Fawkes
Loser #1: Jack Quinn
Quinn stepped right into action this season and played like the first round pick the Sabres thought they were getting. Despite injuries, Quinn recorded 61 points in 45 games this season. Like Peterka, he managed to work his way onto the Sabres main roster for two games, scoring two points.
He also won the AHL’s Rookie of the Year Award, also known as the Dudley “Red” Garrett Memorial Award. And like Peterka, Quinn earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. However, it proved to be his high-water mark in Rochester.
In the playoffs, Quinn looked lost, scoring just two points on assists. He logged zero goals in 10 playoff games on 28 shots. Quinn enjoyed an outstanding 18.2 shooting percentage during the regular season, which further shows how much his play dropped off in May.
We shouldn’t wave the red flags yet with Quinn. But this slump is certainly alarming for a player expected to slide right into the NHL level and produce. Perhaps it’s nothing, but the situation is worth monitoring.
