6 – Michael Houser

Houser re-signed with the Rochester Americans, but since he is still technically in the Buffalo Sabres system, I wanted to include him on this list. Especially since he played well in a cameo appearance for the Sabres last season, posting a 2-0 record, a 2.00 GAA, and a stellar 0.948 save percentage.

While I doubt Houser would have enjoyed long-term success with the Sabres, he was intriguing to watch when injuries decimated the position last season. Houser was also the most versatile goaltender in the system, having seen time with the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Amerks, and the Sabres. Few goaltenders can say that, and it definitely needed to be recognized.

Expect Houser to play in a backup role this season to Malcolm Subban and perhaps Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. If nothing else, he could remain a fixture at the AHL level long-term and serve in a mentorship role for younger goaltenders.
