Meeting the Team Up North on November 19th, 2022

The Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs rivalry took a turn last season when the Sabres bested their cross-border foes three times in March and April. And these games, while providing exciting moments, saw the Sabres outscore the Leafs 15-5.

In 2022-23, the Maple Leafs figure to be among the NHL’s best teams and some consider them to be the most talented team in the Eastern Conference. They will also be looking to show the NHL that a) They can and should beat teams not projected to contend for a playoff spot, and b) Win a playoff series for once.

But to achieve the latter, they need to first address the former. And that includes teams like the Sabres, who have a golden opportunity to continue beating up on the Leafs. But don’t expect Toronto to be the pushover they were in March and April 2022; they will be out to prove to the world those losses to Buffalo were flukes.

But were they? Like I said, the Sabres have the real golden opportunity to show that they can beat any team at any talent level. This season, that ultra-talented team in the Eastern Conference is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
