Buffalo Sabres Season Recap Vs. Atlantic Division

facebooktwitterreddit

The Buffalo Sabres faced Atlantic Division opponents most often during the 2014-2015 NHL season.

Out of 82 games in the season, the Buffalo Sabres played 30 times against fellow Atlantic Division teams.

In those thirty games, the Sabres captured 24 out of a possible 60 points, with an overall record of 10-16-4. (In case you forgot, the Buffalo Sabres’ overall record was 23-51-8.)

The Atlantic Division was the crop of teams that the Buffalo Sabres had the most success against throughout the season; however, this makes sense, especially when you take into consideration those are the teams that the Sabres faced most throughout the year.

It’s only logical that they would accrue the most points against teams they played most often.

The Atlantic Division team that the Buffalo Sabres were most successful against this season: the Montreal Canadiens.

In four games against the Habs, the Sabres took away seven of a possible eight points. The Sabres defeated the Habs three times and lost only once to them, in a shootout.

The Buffalo Sabres also found some success against the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, capturing five of a possible eight points.

The Sabres also took four of a possible eight points in games against the Boston Bruins this past season.

Those were the good points of the season against Atlantic Division foes.

The Sabres really struggled, however, against teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers.

In games against the two Florida-state teams, the Sabres captured just four of a possible 20 points. Buffalo won one game each against the Panthers and Lightning, losing eight games combined to the two teams. Yikes.

The Sabres also struggled against the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators, capturing two of a possible eight points in games against each team, respectively.

All in all, the Buffalo Sabres faced each Atlantic Division team at least four times, with an additional game each against Florida and Tampa Bay.

Below, you’ll find the full breakdown of the 2014-2015 NHL season as the Buffalo Sabres’ record against Atlantic Division teams:

  • vs. Boston Bruins: 1 win, 1 loss, 2 overtime losses
  • vs. Detroit Red Wings: 1 win, 3 losses
  • vs. Florida Panthers: 1 win, 4 losses
  • vs. Montreal Canadiens: 3 wins, 1 shootout loss
  • vs. Ottawa Senators: 1 win, 3 losses
  • vs. Tampa Bay Lightning: 1 win, 4 losses
  • vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: 2 wins, 1 loss, 1 shootout loss

Overall, the Buffalo Sabres had a 10-20 record against Atlantic Division rivals during the 2014-2015 NHL season.

Moving forward, it’s absolutely crucial that the Buffalo Sabres find ways to be more successful against their division rivals.

Although the team was far out of the playoff reach this season, those points lost – even if just the extra four points from shootout and overtime losses – can make the difference between making the postseason or going home to golf early in the future. Missing out on half the potential points against division rivals, and allowing them to take away so many points in games against you, is not going to help the playoff race next season or in years to come.
