With the 21st overall pick in the Fansided 2015 NHL Mock Draft, the Buffalo Sabres select Swiss forward Timo Meier of the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads.

12. Meier is the highest-ranked QMJHL player entering the 2015 NHL Draft. Coming from a team that has produced stars like Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon, Meier is the next star in line for the NHL.. C/RW. Halifax. Timo Meier. 21. player

Meier, 18, has been playing in North America with Halifax since 2013. This year, he was named the QMJHL’s Best Professional Prospect and led the Mooseheads in goals (44) and overall registered 90 points in 61 games, including a franchise-record 23 power-play goals.

Meier had 10 game-winning goals this past season, which was tied for second overall in the Canadian Hockey League.

In 2014-15, Meier led Halifax in goals (44) and finished second on the team with 90 points (44-46—90) in 61 games, including a franchise-record 23 power-play goals. He also paced the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and tied for second place in the Canadian Hockey League with 10 game-winning goals.

Director of NHL Central Scouting Dan Marr said of Meier:

"“He’s a solid and strong skater both with and without the puck, has high-end hockey sense and reads the play very well. He is very effective in 1-on-1 situations.”"

Meier is ranked 10th heading into the 2015 NHL Draft, but since no other Fansided site has picked him up yet, the Buffalo Sabres would be more than happy to select him at 21st overall.

Marr isn’t the only one with good things to say about Meier. Others have said he has a very high skill set, capable of playing in a top six as well as in a bottom six role; that he is “very aware,” skates well and has a strong shot.

  • Reading more in-depth about Meier, he has so many incredible traits attributed to him. He appears to be a generally well-rounded player who could use some work in the defensive end.

Others have also said his weaknesses include his ability to protect the puck, and be accurate with passing, but overall, he seems to be a versatile prospect who could provide good things for the Buffalo Sabres moving forward.

After all – no prospect is ever going to be perfect. They all have things to work on, but with Meier, he seems to already have some solid core abilities that will make him a great addition to the Buffalo Sabres organization.

Imagine him getting the chance to develop in the Buffalo Sabres organization, with the likes of Sam Reinhart and Jack Eichel (presumably). Yes, please.

Our friends over at Gone Puck Wild chose Colin White with the 20th overall selection; next up on the clock are the Washington Capitals. Go ahead and give our friends at Stars and Sticks some love as they make their selection.
