Buffalo Sabres NHL Holiday Gift Options

Well, Buffalo Sabres fans, here we are. Both Canadian and American Thanksgivings are in the books, and we’re well on our way to the month of December, which brings about a number of festive holidays, from Kwanzaa to Christmas and everything in between.

Every year, there are undoubtedly those people in the family who get me something hockey-related for the holidays. There are others still who say “Well, I didn’t know what you already have, and I didn’t want to get you a duplicate!”

So what do you get for the hockey fans in your life? Here are just a few ideas.

1. Buffalo Sabres Tickets

Of course, we have to put Buffalo Sabres tickets at the top of this list. What better way is there to experience a game than to be in the rink, in your seat, surrounded by 19,069 other screaming, cheering fans, feeling the chill of the ice on your skin, smelling the faint odors of popcorn and beer? Give someone the gift of seeing Jack Eichel, Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian and company live in action this season.

This holiday season, consider not only the team’s regular individual ticket packages, consider one of the Hat Trick Packages. For $99, you get a pair of 300 Level II tickets and a team hat, with 14 games to choose from. Games you can pick from start as early as the New Year’s Eve meeting with the NY Islanders, to the April 8th matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Five of the games are Saturdays, including four matinees, with one more coming on a Sunday. There’s five Friday options, plus a small handful of Wednesday and Thursday games to choose from.

2. An Ugly Sweater

A popular trend that the NHL recently caught onto: the “ugly-on-purpose” holiday sweater. Honestly – I can’t decide if I hate it or love it, but maybe that’s the beauty in it.

The sweater runs in men’s sizes, so keep that in mind when order, but regardless of who you’re buying it for, it sure looks comfy and warm!

3. Buffalo Sabres Winter Gear

Who doesn’t need more winter hats, gloves and scarves – especially if you live in Buffalo?

While this may not be the ideal gift for a Buffalo Sabres fan living in the warmth of Florida or California, if they live anywhere winter actually exists, it’s a gold mine of a gift. Keep them warm while allowing them to rock the gear of their favorite team. I have probably almost 10 Sabres winter hats from over the years that I use on a regular basis.

Let’s put it this way, NHL-related or not, it can never hurt to get someone gear that’ll keep them warm in the cold of winter.

4. Buffalo Sabres Home Decor

Whether for the college student decorating their dorm, the up-and-comer nestling into their first apartment, or the long-time couple in their own home, getting some Sabres-related decor isn’t a bad idea. Why not go for something unique, like this etsy-made wood sign, or this “vintage dictionary” print featuring your favorite team?

Of course, this isn’t exactly “home decor” related, but you can always go ahead and get someone special this hockey puck flask.

5. Give A Little Charity

Consider making a donation to an NHL-based organization such as the Buffalo Sabres Foundation, which aims to “timulate, support and encourage organizations that serve Western New York which are committed to youth hockey initiatives; the health, wellness and education of underprivileged /disadvantaged youth and military personnel; and physically and mentally challenged athlete, by providing financial generosity and other platforms for their endeavors.”

The Buffalo Sabres also recently introduced their “Sabres Holiday Angels” program, a wonderful new initiative which allows fans to adopt families, donate individual gifts or donate gift cards to support community neighbors who are in need during the holiday season. To sign up, click here.

There are also multiple items on the NHL Auctions site that will see proceeds benefiting charity, including Sabres-signed breast cancer awareness hats (auctions end November 29, proceeds benefit the Janice Foligno Foundation & Roswell Park Cancer Institute.)

You can also donate to NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer.

So when you’re shopping for the hockey fans on your list this holiday season, consider some of the above options. Think outside the box and get something unique, or consider donating to a hockey-related charity program in lieu of a present.

Let’s all sing it together now: “On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me….. a cup from Lord Sta-a-a-nley.”
