Buffalo Sabres Players at World Championships: Day 4
Tyler Ennis was the lone Buffalo Sabres player in action on May 4th at the 2015 IIHF Men’s Ice Hockey World Championships. Although Andrej Meszaros and Team Slovakia were off Monday, there were four games in play at the tournament.
Monday’s action at the IIHF World Championships began with an 8-1 routing of Latvia by Sweden.
Loui Eriksson had a hat trick to lead the Swedes to victory. Filip Forsberg, Jacob Josefson, Joel Lundqvist, Oscar Moller and Victor Rask also scored for Sweden.
Former Buffalo Sabres netminder Jhonas Enroth had 19 saves in the victory, while the Swedes registered 36 shots on net.
Latvia’s lone goal came from Lauris Darzins.
The second game of the day saw the United States squad defeat Russia by a score of 4-2 in what some called a “surprise” victory for the young Team USA.
Russia outshot Team USA by a narrow margin, 16-15, but the United States was able to contain Russia’s offense and carry on to the win. Jack Campbell had 14 saves against his counterpart, Sergei Bobrovsky.
