Buffalo Sabres History: Who Wore It, Number 65
Buffalo Sabres fans who have been visiting Sabre Noise for some time may be familiar with our “Who Wore It” series. We started this several years ago, highlighting one player to have worn each jersey number with the Buffalo Sabres. This series doesn’t designate who is the “best” to have worn that number, but simply allows fans to learn a little more about the team’s history and the players in it.
We left off with #64 last time, a number which has only been worn by one player in Buffalo Sabres history, in one game.
Today, we move on to jersey number #65, which has been worn by several players in Buffalo Sabres history.
Most recently, it was Brian Flynn who suited up under jersey number 65. But today, we’re going to focus on another player who has worn that number in Buffalo Sabres history: forward Travis Turnbull.
Turnbull, now 29, played three games with the Buffalo Sabres in the 2011-12 season. He registered one goal and five penalty minutes in that time.

Turnbull joined the Sabres organization after four seasons with the University of Michigan.
He first suited up for the Portland Pirates in the 2008-09 season and would play the next two seasons there.
Turnbull then joined the Rochester Americans for the majority of the 2011-12 season, where he racked up an AHL-career high 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 63 games.
He also recorded 117 penalty minutes and ended the regular season as a plus-4.
After making his Buffalo Sabres debut that year, the 2011-12 season would mark the end of Turnbull’s time in North America, at least for the time being.
He joined Duesseldorf EG of Deutsche Eishockey Liga in 2012-13, notching nearly a point-per-game with 46 points (12-34) in 50 games played.
The following season, he went on to play for Ingolstadt ERC, where he registered 39 points (18-21) in 51 games.
Turnbull rejoined Duesseldorf for this past season, where he put up 38 points (19-19) in 52 regular season games. He also notched five points in 12 playoff games.
Aside from Flynn and Turnbull, just one other player in Buffalo Sabres history has worn #65: Mark Napier, who played for the Buffalo Sabres between 1986 and 1989.
