I hope you all are ready for some serious thinking for this one. For today’s choice, I am going to have a look at which player will be the top assist scorer for the Buffalo Sabres this coming season. With an improved offensive core, and some seasoned veterans that have proven abilities the Sabres will have a good race for the top slot.

For this selection, I have three players in mind to possibly take this title by the end the year. One is an established player on Buffalo, one is a newcomer, and the third is a young player. My choices all have the right qualities and skills to pull off this title better than the rest of the team.
My three choices are Matt Moulson, Ryan O’Reilly, and Sam Reinhart.

Matt Moulson proved last year that he is more than a goal scorer by leading the Buffalo Sabres in assists. His 28 assists were two better than team points leader Tyler Ennis and throughout last season he seemed to find great times to pass. Despite having a terrible season overall for his goals, his assist production was a sign of light for the Buffalo Sabres, and it will be a valuable asset going into next year where he will continue his top-six role.
Ryan O’Reilly is nearly cemented as the first line center for the Buffalo Sabres next season, and coach Bylsma has a good reason for it. O’Reilly’s 55 points and 38 assists from last year are key offensive stats to add onto his two-way style of play. O’Reilly’s value to the offense is going to be his ability to find chances to score, while also drawing enough attention to him to set up his line mates. With a keen eye for seamless passes around the ice, O’Reilly will challenge for the assist scoring title next season.
Sam Reinhart is a bit of a stretch pick because of his lacking of NHL experience, but I do believe that he has the ability to rise up and challenge for the assist title.
Sam Reinhart is one of the most responsible and smartest players on the Buffalo Sabres roster. He has the ability to see the ice almost perfectly from wherever he is skating, and his passing ability is second to none. Having the mind that he does allows him to know where his teammates will be without even looking. That kind of ability will prove to be a serious weapon for the Sabres if utilized properly. Sam Reinhart will most likely make the team this year, and I expect him to challenge for the assist title.
After going through all of the skills and stats of these three players, I had to make a tough decision as to which one I think will take the assist scoring title. The safe bet was undoubtedly Ryan O’Reilly due to his skill level, and he is my main choice for winning this title. However, should Sam Reinhart impress and rise up the lines (at least to the second line) I do believe that he will take it from O’Reilly.
