The Buffalo Sabres have announced details for the team’s upcoming training camp, which opens on Thursday, September 17th.

Veteran players will report for testing and physicals on Thursday, with the first on-ice sessions to be held Friday. Practice sessions at First Niagara Center will be open to the public this weekend and next week.

The Sabres visit Minnesota for their first preseason game on Monday at 8 p.m.

Friday’s slate of on-ice sessions will run from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with the day broken down into four sections. Session one will run from 9-9:45 and will be followed by a 45-minute scrimmage, with two additional sessions after that (11-11:45 and 12-1:30).

Saturday and Sunday’s schedules will follow the same format.

There will be a roughly 15 minute break between sessions to allow for resurfacing of the ice.

Following the team’s first preseason game, they’ll return to Buffalo with more on-ice sessions open to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Training camp details going further will be released as the time gets closer.

As for the Buffalo Sabres roster heading into this year’s training camp: there aren’t any big surprises. There are no additional veteran invites (unlike say, the Avalanche, who have invited former Sabres d-man Andrej Meszaros to their main camp).

The team will have seven netminders at training camp this year, starting off with Chad Johnson and Robin Lehner, the duo expected to be the NHL team’s top-two this season. Nathan Lieuwen and Andrey Makarov will also join the team, as will C.J. Motte, who the Rochester Americans signed earlier this year.

Sabres draft pick Linus Ullmark will also skate at main camp, as will former Canisius College goaltender Keegan Asmundson, who was invited to the team’s development camp earlier this summer. He’ll be the only goaltender at camp without a contract somewhere in the Sabres organization.

For defensemen, of course NHLers like Zach Bogosian, Josh Gorges, Rasmus Ristolainen and Mike Weber will be in attendance. Jake McCabe, Mark Pysyk and Chad Ruhwedel will also be at camp in the hopes of making the NHL team this season. Newcomer Cody Franson as well as recent signees Carlo Colaiacovo, Matt Donovan and Bobby Sanguinetti – at least two of whom will likely be in the AHL this season – will also skate.

Other blueliners in attendance from Rochester: Brady Austin, Jerome Leduc and Matt Prapavessis. Brycen Martin, Brendan Guhle and Devante Stephens will also be at main camp, along with invitees Josh Chapman and Spiro Goulakos.

Finally, 36 forwards will attend this year’s Buffalo Sabres training camp, including many players who spent at least part of last season with Buffalo: Jerry D’Amigo, Nicolas Deslauriers, Matt Ellis, Tyler Ennis, Marcus Foligno, Brian Gionta, Zemgus Girgensons, Patrick Kaleta (signed by the Amerks), Johan Larsson, Cody McCormick, Matt Moulson, Sam Reinhart, Tim Schaller and Philip Varone.

Second-overall 2015 NHL Draft pick Jack Eichel is, of course, also going to be in attendance.

In addition, several players who spent last season in Rochester or Elmira will be at camp: William Carrier, Dan Catenacci, Matt Garbowsky, Allan McPherson and Jack Nevins.

Other Sabres prospects in attendance include Justin Bailey, Nicholas Baptiste, Eric Cornel, Jean Dupuy, Giorgio Estephan, Vaclav Karabacek, Justin Kea and Evan Rodrigues.

Newcomers to the Sabres organization include Jason Akeson, Cason Hohman, Evander Kane, David Legwand, Jamie McGinn, both Cal O’Reilly and brother Ryan O’Reilly. All are expected to be in attendance at camp.
